Sunday Round-Up


An overall tough opening day for UW-Stout as they fall to 0-2 right off the bat. Brandon O'Connell had a nice day for the Blue Devils going 4-7 with a pair of home runs.

Greg Smolinski and Ryan Speitz also blasted home runs on the day for Stout.


The Green Knights got things kicked off in Florida by splitting a double header against Anderson University.

Garrick Fisher starred in game one with two hits, two runs and two RBI as well as a home run. Chris Hillesheim also had two hits and two RBI for SNC. On the mound Bryan Stoppenbach went the distance but took the loss.

Game two was more of the same from Fisher who collected two more hits and runs while driving in three runners. Nick Pierre led the way with three hits while Ryan Way and Hillesheim also had two hits. For the game SNC had 13 hits and they needed every single one of them as they won by just a single run, 10-9.

The CUW Falcons had some opportunities to defeat New Jersey but could not get the job done and fell to 2-2 on the season.

The @CUW_Baseball twitter feed shows that Ryan Schilter, Matt Schilter and Matt Mayer had stellar days for the Falcons with two hits and nice defensive plays.

Brent Behling, Ryan Baglow and Glen Meyerhofer did their job on the mound, keeping CUW in the game for all nine innings.

The Sabres swept a doubleheader from Augsburg College to improve to 2-2 on the young season.

In the first game Dustin Andrus gave Marian a their consecutive solid pitching performance going the whole seven innings and allowing just two runs.


Ryan Hiller and Matt Schroeder had both had three hit games to lead the offense.

Jesse Blum gave Marian their fourth consecutive strong starting performance to pick up the win and Cory Martin shut the door on the final two innings to pick up the save.

Anthony Porcaro and Beau Burgert led the way with two hits a piece. Garrett Dorn picked up two RBI and Kent Lentz scored twice in the victory.

A rough one for the Panthers as they gave up a total of five runs in the first two innings to fall behind early.

Paul Hoenecke, Cole Kraft and Tell Taylor had two hits each for UWM. Sam Sivilotti added two RBI. Five Panthers' errors added to the rough day for the pitching staff.

Milwaukee ends the tournament in California with just one win and drops to 2-10 on the season.

The Redmen picked up a solid victory in Florida to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Zach Kozlowski continued his hot start to the 2011 season with another 2-4 performance including two RBI and a double.

Luke Watson picked up the win going 6.2 innings without allowing a run and striking out six.
Lakeland got a pair of great pitching performances from their starters, but could only manage one win as the offense struggled in game two against Westminster.

Matt Katzman and Andrew Schartner pitched the Muskies to victory in game one. Schartner also had the game winning two RBI double.

In game two, Mike Ruzek was the story for Lakeland throwing six innings and allowing just one run on three hits  and striking out five.

Game 1: Parkside 9 Illinois-Springfield 6   Game 2: St. Cloud State 8 Parkside 0
Parkside picked up win number one on the season by defeating Illinois-Springfield.

The win did not come easy for the Rangers, but Jack Olson battled back from a poor first inning to allow his team the chance to get back in the game and eventually win it.

Corey Stonelake and Kirk Haviland led the way with three hits each. Taylor Schwartz picked up two hits and two RBI and also recorded the last out of the game on the hill.

The La Crosse Eagles opened up their season strong with a sweep of Simpson College. No game stats were available yet.
