Spring Break Updates

Edgewood can't overcome big inning
Edgewood got their season kicked off in Tennessee with a tough match-up against Christian Brothers University. The game was the 14th of the season for CBU but Edgewood still put up a solid effort. In the end, CBU pulled out the win 6-4.

For Edgewood, Mike Selvaggi extends hitting streak (carried over from last season) to 18 games, fourth longest in school history. The Eagles used nine different pitchers in the game, a true sign of spring training. Alex Jaskulski was the only player with a multiple hit game.

Milwaukee falls to San Jose State
UWM began their trip to California for the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament the same way most of the season has gone thus far with a 15-4 loss to San Jose State.

The pitching just has not been there for the Panthers this season and the quote in the post game article from Scott Doffek sums it up best.

"That's kind of what we have been doing all season," UWM head coach Scott Doffek said. "Come out and score runs, get back in the dugout and inevitably give back the runs we just scored. That ends up being a bit demoralizing, but that is what we have been fighting through. For whatever reason, we cannot seem to put up a zero after we score."

One constant for Milwaukee has been the play of senior Doug Dekoning. He continued his torrid pace at the plate going 2-4 with an RBI. He also "extended his hitting streak to 11 games, adding his eighth multi-hit outing in nine tries this season."

Beloit and Northland were both canceled in Florida.

ON TAP FOR TODAY...
  • The first battle of two Wisconsin teams against one another as Beloit and Northland hope to take the field after a day off (two in Northland's case).
  • CUW should be opening their season as I type against St. Mary's Minnesota. It isn't going yet but follow @CUW_Baseball for updates throughout their week in Arizona.
  • Carthage College gets things going today too versus Muskingum University in a 2 p.m. CST doubleheader at North County Regional Park in North Port, Fla. Live stats may be available here. No guarantees though.
  • UW-Platteville opens up in Jacksonville, Ill. with a double header against North Central. Will update if I am able to find a link for the game.
  • UWM has another night game, this time against UC-Davis (2-8). Gametracker is available.
  • Marian University is also starting up action as they take on The College of New Jersey at 3 p.m. Mountain time. I am hoping the game is broadcast somewhere for the simple fact that NJ's uniforms are an exact copy of the Yankees.
