Saturday Round-Up

UWM 3 Santa Clara 0
Chad Pierce found the form that helped him become Horizon League Newcomer of the Year a season ago. The senior went 7.1 allowing just three hits and zero walks in picking up the victory.

After allowing a leadoff single in the eighth, Pierce was relieved by Greg Blohowiak who continued his dominating season on the mound by getting the last two outs of the eighth and the first out of the ninth.

Kaleb Engelke was asked to get the final two out and he did so in order to secure the victory.

Offensively, Nick Lingvay, Paul Hoenecke and (do I even need to type it, you can just assume at this point) Doug Dekoing all had two hits. Dekoning is now hitting .500 on the season at 22-44.

No. 8 Marietta 3 Carthage 2
Mariette 5 Carthage 4
Every season, Carthage takes on some of the nation's top competition on their spring trip to Florida, and this year is no different.

On just their second day of action of the season, the Red Men were play the eighth ranked team in the nation in Marietta. The Red Men gave them a strong battle in both games but fell by just a single run in both, including a 5-4 14 inning loss.

Billy Herrin was 2-4 with both RBI in game one of the doubleheader that Carthage dropped 3-2. He also added a three hit performance in the second game.

Joey Aiello and Zach Kozlowski each added two hits with Kozlowski putting up three RBI.

Concordia 9 Pitt-Bradford 6
Concrodia 14 Pitt-Bradford 3
The Falcons used strong starting pitching performances for Derrick Pankow and Matt Parrent to lead them to victory.

Dan Shea, Austin Sarauer and Dan Mueller all had big days at the plate including home runs to get CUW their first two wins of the season.

St. Mary's 4 Marian 2
The Marian Sabres wasted another great pitching performance, this time by Brett Hogan, to lose to St. Mary's 4-2.

Hogan went seven innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out five batters. The offense could not put anything together for the second consecutive game, but Garrett Dorn provided a lone bright spot with two hits.

Vassar College 3 Beloit 2
The Buccaneers could not quite overcome the early Vassar lead and lost in their final game in Florida. The loss puts the Bucs at 4-3 as they head to Wisconsin.

Mike Kovach and Mike Ross were the offensive stars of the trip batting well over .400 and slugging over .500. Alex Norman was the star on the mound going 13 innings scoreless and collecting two victories while striking out nine and walking zero.

Madison College 15 Indian Hills 7
Madison College 9 Indian Hills 3
The Wolfpack opened up the season the right way by sweeping Indian Hills Community College scores of 15-7 and 9-3.

Andrew Wasmund had three hits and four RBI in the opener while James Furlano and Trevor Burmeister both added three hits as well. For the game the Wolf Pack banged out 14 hits.

In game two, Eric DuCharme, Tyler Brusky, Wasmund and Landon Tenhagen all had two hits.

Webster 8 Northland 1
The loss finishes Northland's trip with a 2-6 record.

St. Cloud State 4 Parkside 3
St. Cloud State 15 Parkside 3
In game one Gentry Van Allen and Nick Mishevich held the St. Cloud offense in check but Parkside's own offense could not get anything going.

Game two was all St. Cloud as they rolled to a 15-3 victory. The losses drop Parkside to 0-7

DeSales 3 Cardinal Stritch 2
Cardinal Stritch 12 DeSales 11
Andy Klein pitched another solid game for Cardinal Stritch striking out 12 in seven innings but his offense let him down an could only manage four hits.

Game two was the exact opposite of game one as the two teams opened up a slug fest. Deano Mlachnik and Mike Mather led the way with four hits apiece. Mike Ploch added three hits while Sterling Smith added two in a 12-11 Stritch victory.

Rensselaer Poly 13 Ripon 4
